Lake
R-Ranch hosts a 7.5-acre diameter lake which is excellent for fishing and other water activities. It is naturally stocked with bass, catfish and bluegill.
The lake was created during the Mt. Whitney Company days as they used it to float the logs into the sawmill.
The lake is fed from two of our underground water pumps which makes R-Ranch unique during a drought when other water sources, such as the Kern River dry up. This is one of the many reasons a why the US Forestry Fire Service sets up Base Camp during wildfires at R-Ranch. During the Windy Fire in the Fall 2021, helicopters siphoned 735,000 gallons of water from our lake. This lake is invaluable to the future of R-Ranch.
